Two Leading Nonprofits Unite in a Historic Merger to Expand Access, Amplify Impact, and Build a Brighter Future for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Dallas, TX (July 16, 2025) Two of North Texas’s most respected disability service providers, Ability Connection and My Possibilities, have officially merged to expand access, strengthen community impact, and build a more inclusive future for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The partnership brings together decades of experience, complementary programming, and a shared commitment to empowering the families they serve.
With shared missions, complementary programs, and decades of compassionate service between them, this merger reflects a bold, community-first vision and an unwavering commitment to the people and families they serve.
“We are excited to announce the merger of two of North Texas’ most respected organizations serving adults with IDD,” said Karen Wald, Board Chair of My Possibilities. “By bringing our organizations together, we will expand access to critical programs and resources to those we serve now and in the future.”
Tod Marvin, CEO of My Possibilities, will lead the organization, with each brand continuing under its respective name.
“This merger is the result of two mission-driven organizations coming together with one powerful belief that every person with IDD deserves opportunity, dignity, and connection,” said Tod Marvin, CEO of My Possibilities. “We’re thrilled to unite our teams and expand what’s possible across North Texas. The future we’re building together is both bold and deeply personal.”
Jim Hanophy, outgoing President and CEO of Ability Connection, will retire after years of dedicated service, remaining involved as a member of the Ability Connection Advisory Council.
“This marks a proud milestone in our journey,” said Hanophy. “Helping build Ability Connection has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I’m filled with gratitude and tremendous optimism knowing our shared values with My Possibilities will carry this work forward. Together we’re stronger, more connected, and ready to meet the future with purpose.”
Both organizations engaged in extensive planning and due diligence to ensure a seamless, thoughtful transition that upholds care quality, staff stability, and community trust.
“The executive teams did a fantastic job credentialing the benefits of the merger in areas such as programming, culture and financial viability. After significant vetting by the merger committee, both boards agreed this was the right path,” said John Creme, Board Chair of Ability Connection. “With the scale we’ve created, we believe we will have the organizational strength to not only enhance the experience for our existing members and hipsters, but to serve a greater number of individuals in our IDD communities.”
Some of the key highlights of the merger include the following:
Uninterrupted Care: All current programs, including therapy, day services, case management, lifelong learning, vocational training, and residential support will continue without disruption.
Expanded Impact: Together, the organization will serve more than 1,900 families across Texas, offering enhanced services and deeper community reach.
Strategic Leadership: My Possibilities will serve as the parent organization with governance and leadership coming from the My Possibilities Board and CEO Tod Marvin; up to six Ability Connection board members, including Chair John Crème, will join My Possibilities’ board. John will also be a member of the Board’s Executive Committee.
Shared Infrastructure: The merger enables operational efficiencies, program expansion, and cross-trained staff to elevate service delivery across locations. In addition, Ability Connection will maintain its 501(c)(3) status.
The organization is primed to write the next chapter in disability services across North Texas – with deeper impact, greater reach, and a joyful commitment to possibility.
