The mission of Ability Connection is to enrich the lives of children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities through comprehensive, life changing care, training and supports. We believe that disability is a naturally occurring part of life and not a problem or a characteristic a person “has”. Disability exists when there is a gap between a person’s capacity and the demands of a particular situation; be it living, working or enjoying the community. Our job is to bridge that gap through individual supports, adaptations to the environment or demands and training so that people may enjoy the same quality of life as their non-disabled peers.

We offer a variety of services, designed to address the individual choices and priorities. These include: residential services, community supports through Medicaid waiver programs, on-site training centers with tiered levels of support to address the needs of our clientele and employment support services. For each person served, we learn what their goals and choices are, facilitate the supports and services needed and then measure their success and satisfaction

Ability Connected started as United Cerebral Palsy in 1954 and has been in existence for 65 years. We currently provide supports and services to 700 individuals within Texas.  We seek consistently to provide “world class services” by focusing on compassion, respect and results.

We Need Your Help!

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has proposed cutting rates for critical Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) services by 21%.

We urge lawmakers to protect rates for Home and Community Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living Waiver (TxHmL) services and fund the IDD Attendant Compensation Rate Enhancement program as per the HHSC LAR released September 2016 ($8.5 million).

By protecting these rates and allowing providers to pay direct service workers competitive wages you are protecting the safety and well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. It is time to reach out to your state lawmakers and let your voice be heard!  Learn more about this issue.
